Welcome to the Cerritos College Education Department
The Education Department's mission is to prepare future educators through a collegial and scholarly teaching community that emphasizes inclusive pedagogy, reflective practice, and academic excellence. The department provides high-quality lower-division preparation that supports transfer to four-year universities and degree pathways in Education Studies and Special Education, as well as workforce-focused certificates aligned with community and regional needs. In addition, the department supports workforce preparation through flexible, open entry and exit coursework, including a Certificate in Special Education designed for students pursuing careers as special education teachers as well as those working with or supporting individuals with disabilities in educational and community settings. Centered on student success, the department is committed to developing socially responsible, highly qualified, and diverse educators who are prepared to meet local and state educational needs in inclusive, technologically informed, and evolving learning environments.
