Notetaking Info for Faculty

This page provides information to faculty who have a student with a disability who has requested a peer notetaker in one of their classes. SAS students approved for notetaking assistance may request notetakers for in-person classes, remote classes, and online classes which utilize videos.

FACULTY INFO:

  • If you receive an accommodation letter via the portal which indicates the student is eligible for notetaking assistance, please assist us in identifying a volunteer from your class by doing the following:
  • Without mentioning the SAS student's name, please notify your class that a classmate needs a volunteer notetaker for the semester. In exchange for their service, priority enrollment will be issued to the notetaker for an upcoming semester.
  • Once a notetaker has been identified, please provide their name and student ID via our Volunteer Notetaker Form.
  • The volunteer will be able to select priority enrollment for one subsequent Fall, Spring, or Summer semester, which should also be noted on the Volunteer Notetaker Form.
  • If a volunteer notetaker cannot be located, please provide the SAS student with any notes and slides you have in order to facilitate equal access to the information.

VOLUNTEER NOTETAKER INFO:

  • SAS appreciates the valuable service volunteer notetakers provide to students with disabilities.
  • Volunteer notetakers should exchange email addresses with the SAS student so the class notes can be shared via email or another file-sharing platform, such as Google Drive.
  • Notes are to be shared with the SAS student as soon as possible but no more than 24 hours after the class meeting ends.
  • Volunteer notetakers who drop the class should notify the SAS student and the professor as soon as possible so that a new volunteer notetaker can be located.
  • Priority Enrollment is only available to notetakers who provide notes for the entire semester so please be certain you are able to make this commitment before volunteering.

PLEASE NOTE:  SAS student information must be kept confidential at all times unless notified otherwise.  Other classmates should not be provided information regarding which student is receiving services from SAS, unless the student chooses to identify themself.

SAS appreciates your assistance ensuring that students with disabilities have equal access to information and an equal opportunity to succeed in your class.

Questions?  Please email vgutierrez@cerritos.edu or contact the student's SAS specialist as noted on the accommodation letter.
