Impactful Teaching Toolkit

instructor helping students

At Cerritos College, faculty have the opportunity to shape the next generation of informed and engaged students through our undergraduate courses. Serving a diverse student body, we are dedicated to providing all students with the resources and support they need to reach their full potential and succeed academically and professionally.

To support this mission, the Faculty Senate has developed the Impactful Teaching Toolkit, a comprehensive framework designed to highlight best practices in pedagogy. This toolkit promotes inclusive teaching practices, acknowledges the diverse backgrounds of our students, and offers strategies to create a more equitable learning environment.

The toolkit is organized into sections covering various teaching strategies, engagement techniques, and assessment methods. Use the table of contents on the left side of this page to explore the sections that meet your specific needs.

It is important to note that these guidelines are intended to empower faculty, not to limit their autonomy. The toolkit is a resource for faculty to enhance and support their teaching, not to dictate how they should teach.

The Toolkit:

  • Respects faculty members' academic freedom
  • Allows faculty to select assignments, design assessments, and choose teaching methods based on THEIR professional judgment
  • Encourages maintaining high academic standards while fostering a supportive environment for student growth

For faculty seeking a deeper understanding of their rights, we encourage you to visit the Faculty Senate's Academic Freedom page for further information on academic freedom protections.
