To Do Upon Acceptance

Out of Country Students 

Once you receive your I-20, pay your SEVIS fee of $350.00

Please go to https://www.fmjfee.com/ for more information and use the credit card option if possible. 

Once paid, print confirmation of payment and bring with you to your visa interview.

Find the U.S. Embassy or Consulate near you.

Fill out the DS-160 non-immigrant visa application and upload your visa photo.  Print out the confirmation page.

Pay the visa appointment fee.

Schedule an interview appointment.

Canadian/Bermian Citizens:

Canadian citizens do not need to apply for the F-1 visa to study in the US. Once you have your I-20, you will need to bring/present the following at port of entry:

  1. Proof of Canadian citizenship (ie. Canadian passport)
  2. Cerritos College I-20 signed by DSO
  3. Confirmation of payment of SEVIS I-901 fee 
  4. Proof of financial support (ie. bank statement)
  5. Proof of ties to Canada (ie. leases, family business, employment, etc.)

Review the requirements for the U.S. embassy or consulate that you will visit before your interview and come prepared. This list may be different for each office.

  • Passport with expiration 6 months or more from date of entry to the U.S.
  • Cerritos College admission Letter
  • Cerritos College I-20 Form signed by DSO
  • I-901 SEVIS fee receipt
  • Documents proving intent to return to the home country after completion of study
  • Financial support evidence
  • All U.S. Department of State forms and documents listed on the U.S. Embassy/Consulate website (non-refundable visa application fee and photographs)

 

Transfer 

Contact your current school's international student advisor/DSO to transfer your SEVIS record to Cerritos College. Provide a cop of your Cerritos College admission letter.

  1. This questionnaire will help your counselor recommend the best Math and English classes for you.
  2. It should take approximately 10-15 minutes
  3. Review detailed instructions to complete the SRT. 

  • Schedule this appointment AFTER taking the SRT placement.
  • Log into your MyCerritos portal to schedule. If you have issues making your appointment, contact our office at 562-860-2451 ext 2133 or email intadmissions@cerritos.edu
  • Make sure your appointment is labeled as "INTL Orientation"

    • Tuesdays 9am-2pm PST
    • Fridays 9am-12pm PST

  • To enroll for  classes, visit:  http://www.cerritos.edu/mycerritos (this process can only be completed after you meet a counselor)
  • Enroll in a minimum of 12 units overall
  • Enroll in 9 in-person units. Hybrid courses may count as in-person.
  • Note*: New (Initial) F-1 students, we recommend you do NOT enroll in courses until your visa or change of status has been approved. If you choose to enroll for courses and your visa is not approved before the start of the term, it is your responsibility to drop classes before the program start to avoid accruing an outstanding balance and/or to be eligible for refund of fees paid.

  • You must complete the F-1 International Student Canvas Orientation Course
    • Completing the Falcon Orientation does not count towards completing this Canvas orientation.

    • Read each page through each module

    • Upload all necessary documentation

    • ALL ASSIGNMENTS AND PAGES MUST BE READ/COMPLETED. ALL FORMS MUST BE COMPLETED AND UPLOADED.

    • Complete the Orientation Quiz with a minimum score of 80%

 

Note*: You must be enrolled in courses first to access this orientation. If you are not enrolled, you will not be able to access the Orientation course.
