LINC/NextUp Services

LINC/NextUp provides a number of services to assist students as they transition to college and work to complete their educational goals.  

ACADEMIC SUPPORT DESCRIPTION
Academic/Career Counseling

Students get individualized academic and career counseling including support with: education planning, course registration, major and career exploration. 

Priority Registration (if eligible) To be eligible, students must provide a proof of dependency letter noting they were in care on or after the age of 13 and be no older than 25 years of age at the beginning of the academic year.
LINC/NextUp Learning Cohort New students can join our LINC/NextUp Learning Cohort to complete English, Communication, and Counseling courses. The Learning Cohort facilitates the transition to college-level coursework by integrating support services and building community among students.
Tutoring

Tutoring is available both in-person and on Zoom in the following topics: 

  • Math: Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry
  • Science: Anatomy & Physiology, Physics, Chemistry
  • Writing (for all courses)

Academic supplies
  • Book and Calculator Lending - textbooks and calculators are available to borrow on a first come - first served basis at the EOPS/CARE/LINC/NextUp Lending Library
  • School Supplies - backpacks, notebooks, binders, paper, note cards, etc. are available for students on an as-needed basis
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE DESCRIPTION
Book Voucher

The LINC/NextUp Book Voucher is available Fall, Spring and Summer semester to LINC/NextUp students that complete a Wellness Check-in with the Program Facilitator at the beginning of the semester.

Transportation Assistance

Students can receive transportation assistance in the form of grants, parking reimbursement, or vendor cards upon completion of their First Academic Counseling Appointment. The type of transportation assistance a student will receive is based on student eligibility.

Students who pay their Student Activities Fee each semester ride and transfer free-of-charge between several transit systems all over L.A. with the Cerritos College Metro GoPass. The Metro GoPass is managed by the Student Activities office. Visit the Student Activities website for information about the GoPass.

Grants

Various grant opportunities are available to LINC/NextUp students and are based on student eligibility.

Emergency Support

Emergency support is available to students who experience unexpected expenses/circumstances. Emergency support is available in the form the following forms:

  • Transportation vendor cards
  • Grocery store vendor cards
  • Emergency grants

Emergency grants are available to students who experience unexpected expenses and loss of income.  Students must complete an application and submit proof of need (e.g. invoice, bill statement).  Students may apply for a grant once per academic year to assist with:

  • Rent
  • Car repair
  • Child Care
  • Bills (Utilities, phone)
  • Insurance 
  • Etc. 
Honors Society membership Dues Students who are invited to join Alpha Gamma Sigma and/or Phi Theta Kappa honors societies can get their fee membership reimbursed. 
Application Fee Waiver for Transfer Institutions Students seeking to apply to more than 4 UC and/or 4 CSUs and/or 4 Private Universities through the Common App can receive financial assistance to cover the cost of application fees up to $300. 
Graduation Regalia Students who have completed the petition to graduate receive cap, gown and sash through LINC/NextUp.
OTHER SERVICES DESCRIPTION
Social Events & Workshops

Social events and workshops provide opportunities to become involved on campus, engage with peers and staff, and learn something new. 

Activities include:

  • Workshops: Budgeting, LINC Cooking Show, Time Management
  • Social activities: Laser Tag, Spring Picnic
  • Annual Celebrations: LINC/NextUp Friendsgiving, LINC/NextUp Graduation Celebration Dinner

Community Referrals

 

LINC/NextUp works closely with on- and off-campus partners to connect students to additional support, including:

  • Housing
  • Mental Health
  • Mentorship
  • Food support

Computer Lab

A computer lab is open for students at the EOPS/CARE/LINC/NextUp office during regular business hours.
