Analyze contributions of a range of authors, including those from historically underrepresented groups, from the beginnings to the second half of the 19th century of American literature
Examine the distinct characteristics of the literary periods that emerge from the beginnings to the second half of the 19th century of American literature
Evaluate the literary, cultural, historical, philosophical, and aesthetic influences on specific texts
Analyze and synthesize the contributions of key American authors to the development of American literature
Demonstrate understanding of the approaches to evaluating literary works for their literary, cultural, historical and political features
Demonstrate comprehension of the above through class discussion, written exams, multimodal projects, and/or essays using MLA formatting and documentation
