Transfer School: UC Santa Barbara
Transfer Major: Economics and Accounting
What term/year did you transfer? Fall 2018
What kinds of activities and/or programs did you participate in at Cerritos College?
I was accepted into Phi Theta Kappa in February 2016, I was a member of the Math Club during my first two semesters, and I was a member of the Accounting Club during my last three semesters at Cerritos College.
What activities and/or program did you participate in at the university?
I was a member of the Accounting Society throughout my time at UCSB and co-president of the university's Active Minds chapter during my senior year. Active Minds helped me keep the focus I needed in my well-being throughout my academic career at university and improve my leadership skills. In addition, I was an Academic Skills Tutor during my senior year and my last quarter at UCSB, which helped me better my own academic skills while teaching other students how to better theirs.
Words of wisdom for future transfer students:
When you transfer to a university, you might feel like you failed or as if your plan for your academic and professional future is not going as planned. Know that failing is a huge part of succeeding, and you can only learn from it. There's a chance you will need to adjust your plan because of (teachable and common) failures along the way, but there's a great chance you will arrive at the same goal you originally had. Surround yourself with people who will remind you of this, and be one of those people as well.
Career and future goals:
I am currently an Audit and Assurance Senior Assistant at Deloitte. My two current main clients are in the Technology and Real Estate industry, respectively. I am also an Embedded Tutor at Cerritos College part-time. My short-term goals include earning my CPA license, completing a Leadership Academy opportunity presented to me at Deloitte, and earning a Master's in Higher Education. My long-term goals include becoming a partner at Deloitte and a Professor of Accounting.
