Valeria Jaramillo

Valeria Jaramillo

Transfer School: UC Santa Barbara

Transfer Major: Geology

What term/year did you transfer? Fall 2017

What kinds of activities and/or programs did you participate in at Cerritos College?

Scholars Honors Program, Phi Theta Kappa, Geology Club, STEM Open House

Why did you choose Cerritos College to Transfer:

Cerritos was one of the closest colleges to me and I had to work while going to school. It was convenient

Words of wisdom for future transfer students:

"Academically, grades are not as important as you may think, just do your best and take classes to learn - that will pay off more. Personally, your story matters and you have to believe in yourself above everything else. Professionally, your work ethic is noticed and networking is super important.  Financially, if you're pursuing a career in STEM, there is usually funding - I will walk out of school with no debt. There are so many resources, take advantage of them. "

Career and future goals:

Valeria is currently pursuing a PhD in Structural Geology at UCLA and plans on becoming a professor in the future.
