Students Experiencing Respiratory Symptoms

STUDENT GUIDELINES FOR COVID, FLU, & OTHER RESPIRATORY VIRUS ILLNESSES

When you think you might have a cold, COVID, the flu, or any other respiratory virus which can cause symptoms such as fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and/or headaches:

  1. Stay home and away from others (including people you live with who are not sick).
  2. Notify your instructor.
  3. Get extra sleep and stay well hydrated.
  4. You can return to campus when, for at least 24 hours, both of the following are true:
    1. Your symptoms are getting better overall, and
    2. You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
  5. When you return to campus, wear a mask and maintain social distancing while indoors on campus for at least 5 days.
    1. Keep in mind that you may still be able to spread the virus that made you sick, even if you are feeling better.
    2. If you develop a fever or you start to feel worse after you have gone back to normal activities, stay home again (return to Step 1).
  6.  Enrolled students may make a telehealth appointment with SHS by calling 562-860-2451 Ext. 2321.
