Part-Time Faculty Medical Enrollment
For 2025, the initial enrollment period for part-time faculty teaching or serving a 40% load in Spring 2025 began on December 10, 2024 to January 14, 2025 with medical benefits taking effect February 1, 2025.
New Part Time Faculty Enrollment
New part-time faculty with an assignment of 40% FTE or more, can enroll in medical benefits during the initial enrollment window (within 60 days of the start of the assignment). Enrolling after this 60-day period will incur a 90-day waiting period for medical coverage to become effective.
New eligible part-time faculty can request enrollment using the Part-time Faculty Medical Form.
Eligibility
- Workload:
- Minimum of 40% full-time (0.40 FTE) for Spring 2025.
- 6 units LHE for credit faculty.
- 13 hours per week or 237.6 hours worked for counselors, librarians and SAS specialists
- 12 hours per week or 216 hours worked for non-credit and Success Center faculty.
- Part-time faculty with both credit (LHE), non-credit, Success Center part-time faculty,
and CLI (hourly) assignments may meet eligibility provided that the sum of assignments
meets or exceeds 40%.
- Minimum of 40% full-time (0.40 FTE) for Spring 2025.
- Exclusions:
- Faculty or their dependents whose premiums for health insurance are paid by an employer other than a community college district are not eligible to participate in the program.
- Retired full-time faculty with CalPERS retiree medical benefits that have returned to part-time employment are not eligible.

Employee Cost and Premium Amounts
The District's maximum annual contribution to the medical premiums for eligibility part-time faculty is $34,500 a year.
- Any plan selected over the current maximum will have a Payroll deduction.
The District's maximum contribution does not apply to Kaiser Permanente HMO and PERS Gold PPO plans, which will be fully covered by the District, regardless of the cost of the premiums.

Multidistrict Part-Time Faculty
Multi-district part-time faculty and their dependents are eligible to participate in this program. To be eligible for reimbursement, you must have a teaching load of 40% FTE or more during each semester at Cerritos College and at least one more California community college. The Multi-District Assignment Verification section on the Part-Time Faculty Certification form will need to be completed. Once eligibility is determined, the participant will pay for medical coverage out of pocket, then submit request for reimbursement which will be disbursed evenly amongst the colleges taught at based on FTE.

Changes to Your Enrollment
Open Enrollment
You can enroll in or make changes to your benefits each year during open enrollment
(usually during the months of September - October). Changes made during Open Enrollment
become effective the following calendar year on January 1.
Qualifying Life Event
Part-time faculty with a qualifying event that impacts their health benefit enrollment
can make changes outside of the open enrollment period by submitting a Change in Employee Health Benefits Form. Below is a list of qualifying events that warrant a change in your health benefits
enrollment:
- Adding a spouse due to marriage
- Adding a child due to birth, custody, or a parent-child relationship
- Deleting a spouse due to divorce
- Deleting a dependent who vacates the household
- Enrolling in a district medical plan due to loss of other coverage
*As a reminder, Human Resources must receive the change request within 60 days of your qualifying event or you may experience a 90-day waiting period for your change in coverage to take effect.* For more information on life events, please visit the CalPERS website to learn how certain events can impact your coverage or benefits in CalPERS programs.

Once your health benefits enrollment has been processed, eligible employees are encouraged to create a myCalPERS account, regardless of their retirement agency, to access helpful resources and tools related to their health plan enrollment.
