How to Connect to a Web from Home Using FrontPage

(**Note: this process will not work while off campus using a Mac)

  1. Connect to the Internet using either the campus network or your connection at home
  2. Open My Computer on your Desktop
  3. Open Web Folders
  4. Open Add Web Folder
  5. Type in the web address to your directory such as "http://www.cerritos.edu/username"
  6. When presented with username/password box, enter your NT username and password.  It is the same login that you use to logon to any NT computer on campus.  Your user name should include the domain name "CERRITOS" and a backslash "\" like this: cerritos\usernameYou must have an NT username and password to access your FrontPage web.
  7. Follow the directions in the dialog box and click Finish
  8. Launch Microsoft FrontPage.
  9. From the File Menu, choose Open Web.
  10. In the dialog box, Navigate to Web Folders inside My Computer.
  11. At the bottom of the dialog box type the server domain name and the directory such as: www.cerritos.edu/username.
  12. When presented with username/password box, enter your NT username and password.  It is the same login that you use to logon to any NT computer on campus.  Your user name should include the domain name "CERRITOS" and a backslash "\" like this: cerritos\usernameYou must have an NT username and password to access your FrontPage web.
  13. Wait for your directory to open.  You are now looking at all the files and folders that exist in  your web directory.  Double click on any HTML page to start editing it live on the server.  Any changes you save here will be saved on the server for the world to see.
  14. One advisable approach is to author locally on your computer, test, then deploy to the web server (transfer your updated files).  You may create a FrontPage web on your C drive at home or on campus for this purpose.
  15. To create a FrontPage web on your C drive, follow step 1 then choose File, New Web.  Choose a template for your web (One Page Web).  In the location box enter C:\username (or some other name for your web).  Click OK.  You can now import files and folders into your new web or transfer them in windows explorer.
