FAQs – We’ve Got Answers!
The Common Course Numbering (CCN) system ensures that classes with the same content have the same number at all California community colleges. It’s designed to make transferring to CSU, UC, and other institutions easier and less confusing. This system is part of Assembly Bill 1111 (Berman) and affects 75–80 of the most commonly transferred courses.
If you took courses before Fall 2025, you’ll want to check the new numbers to avoid accidentally repeating a class. Check with a counselor to make sure your academic plan stays on track.
Just be aware of the new course numbers when registering for classes, and check in with a counselor if you have any questions about how they affect your academic plan.
The first phase of CCN launched in Fall 2025. Additional updates will roll out in future semesters.
Look for the “C” in the course number (e.g., ENGL C1000). That indicates it’s part of the new CCN system.
Some subject abbreviations (like POL to POLS) were updated to match statewide usage and make course information more consistent across colleges.
Yes! Courses that haven’t changed will still transfer under existing agreements with CSU, UC, and private colleges.
